Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how FAMILYQUEST, operated by Travis Felker ("we", "us", or "our"), collects, uses, and protects information when you use FamilyQuest ("Service"). We are committed to compliance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws.

1. Who We Are

FAMILYQUEST is a sole proprietorship registered in Ontario, Canada (BIN: 1001650873), operating the Service at familyquest.casa. Our privacy contact is support@familyquest.casa.

2. Information We Collect

Account holder information — When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and payment information (processed by Stripe — we never store your full card details). Your email address is required and is used to send billing notices, trial reminders, and important account communications. This information is provided directly by you and is necessary to create and bill your account.

Family member profiles — Account holders create profiles for family members. We store the usernames you choose, allowance amounts, and any configuration you set. We do not require or collect email addresses, real names, dates of birth, or any other personal information for non-adult family members (children). Usernames are parent-chosen and do not need to be real names.

Usage data — We store data generated through use of the Service, including chore completion records, XP and level progression, achievement history, bank balances, and mission progress. This data is associated with your family account and family member profiles.

Technical data — We collect IP addresses for security purposes (specifically to manage trusted device authentication and rate-limit login attempts). We do not use cookies beyond what is necessary for session management. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising pixels.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect email addresses from non-adult users (children)
• We do not collect real names of children — only parent-chosen usernames
• We do not collect location data
• We do not collect photos or biometric data
• We do not build advertising profiles or track users across other websites

4. Children's Privacy

FamilyQuest is designed for family use and is intended to be managed by adults on behalf of their children. The account holder must be 18 or older. By creating profiles for children, the account holder confirms they are the parent or legal guardian and provides consent for the collection and use of that child's profile data as described in this policy.

We collect only the minimum information necessary to operate child profiles within the Service: a parent-chosen username, chore/task history, and in-app progress data. This information is used solely to provide the Service and is not shared with third parties for any other purpose.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child without appropriate parental consent, please contact us immediately at support@familyquest.casa and we will delete it promptly.

5. How We Use Your Information

• To create and manage your account and family profiles
• To process subscription payments and send billing-related emails
• To deliver the features of the Service (chore tracking, gamification, bank mechanics)
• To send service-related communications (trial expiry reminders, account notices)
• To detect and prevent fraud and unauthorized access

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the Service.

6. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the following service providers, solely for the purpose of operating the Service:

• Stripe — payment processing. Stripe processes and stores your payment card information under their own privacy policy and PCI-DSS compliance.
• Mailgun — transactional email delivery (billing notices, trial reminders). Email addresses of adult account holders are transmitted to Mailgun solely for this purpose.
• Google — for families that optionally enable Google Calendar integration, calendar data is accessed via the Google Calendar API under Google's privacy terms.

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government authority.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your subscription is active. After account expiry or cancellation, we retain data according to our Data Retention Policy:

• Trial accounts that expire without subscribing: data retained for 30 days
• Paid accounts that cancel or lapse: data retained for 90 days
• Upon explicit deletion request: data deleted immediately

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit and bcrypt hashing for authentication PINs. As a sole proprietorship operating on a dedicated cloud server, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

9. Your Rights Under PIPEDA

Under PIPEDA, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
• Deletion — request deletion of your personal information (see our Data Retention Policy)
• Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent to our collection and use of your information (note: this will require account termination)

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
